MOUNT of OLIVES -- New Testament

 Luke 22:52-54

King James Version

52 Then Jesus said unto the chief priests,

and captains of the temple, and the elders,

which were come to him,

Be ye come out, as against a thief,

with swords and staves?

53 When I was daily with you in the temple,

ye stretched forth no hands against me:

but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.

54 Then took they him, and led him,

and brought him into the high priest's house.

And Peter followed afar off.

A lot happened on the Mount of Olives, in the Old Testament.

But a lot also happened in the New Testament -- in JESUS' time.

It's where He taught, prayed, was betrayed, was seized, and ascended.

It's also where a prophecy was given in the Old Testament.

And it's where the prophecy will be fulfilled.

JESUS often went to the Mount of Olives.

As you shall see from a highlighted phrase.

It was called Mount of Olives precisely because it had a lot of olive trees.

But not so much these days, according to the video links below.

Still, can you imagine the amount of material the trees "witnessed", since the Old Testament?

All life-changing, and world-changing events, too.

We did tell you trees "witness" much.

Let SPIRIT and Scripture tell us more.

Here are excerpts from the FOUR gospels.

Matthew 21:1-6

King James Version

21 And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem,

and were come to Bethphage

unto the mount of Olives,

then sent Jesus two disciples,

2 Saying unto them,

Go into the village over against you,

and straightway ye shall find an ass tied,

and a colt with her:

loose them, and bring them unto me.

3 And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say,

The Lord hath need of them;

and straightway he will send them.

4 All this was done, that it might be fulfilled

which was spoken by the prophet, saying,

5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion,

Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek,

and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

6 And the disciples went,

and did as Jesus commanded them,

Matthew 24:1-3

King James Version

24 And Jesus went out,

and departed from the temple:

and his disciples came to him for to shew him

the buildings of the temple.

2 And Jesus said unto them,

See ye not all these things?

verily I say unto you,

There shall not be left here one stone upon another,

that shall not be thrown down.

3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives,

the disciples came unto him privately, saying,

Tell us, when shall these things be?

and what shall be the sign of thy coming,

and of the end of the world?

Mark 14:32-35

King James Version

32 And they came to a place

which was named Gethsemane

and he saith to his disciples,

Sit ye here, while I shall pray.

33 And he taketh with him

Peter and James and John,

and began to be sore amazed,

and to be very heavy;

34 And saith unto them,

My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death:

 tarry ye here, and watch.

35 And he went forward a little,

and fell on the ground,

and prayed that, if it were possible,

the hour might pass from him.

Mark 14:36-39

King James Version

36 And he said, Abba, Father,

all things are possible unto thee;

take away this cup from me:

nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping,

and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou?

couldest not thou watch one hour?

38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

39 And again he went away, and prayed,

and spake the same words.

Luke 22:39-40

King James Version

39 And he came out, and went,

as he was wontto the mount of Olives;

and his disciples also followed him.

40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them,

Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

Luke 22:41-43

King James Version

41 And he was withdrawn from them

about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,

42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing,

remove this cup from me:

nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

43 And there appeared an angel unto him

from heaven, strengthening him.

Luke 22:44

King James Version

44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly:

and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood

falling down to the ground.

Luke 22:45-46

King James Version

45 And when he rose up from prayer,

and was come to his disciples,

he found them sleeping for sorrow,

46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye?

rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

Luke 22:47-48

King James Version

47 And while he yet spake, behold a multitude,

and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve,

went before them,

and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.

48 But Jesus said unto him,

Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man

with a kiss?

John 8:1-3

King James Version

8 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

2 And early in the morning

he came again into the temple,

and all the people came unto him;

and he sat down, and taught them.

3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him

a woman taken in adultery;

and when they had set her in the midst,

John 18:10-11

King James Version

10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it,

and smote the high priest's servant,

and cut off his right ear.

The servant's name was Malchus*.

11 Then said Jesus unto Peter,

Put up thy sword into the sheath:

the cup which my Father hath given me,

shall I not drink it?

Matthew 26:52

King James Version

52 Then said Jesus unto him,

Put up again thy sword into his place:

for all they that take the sword

shall perish with the sword.

John 18:12-13

King James Version

12 Then the band and the captain

and officers of the Jews took Jesus,

and bound him,

13 And led him away to Annas first;

for he was father in law to Caiaphas

which was the high priest that same year.

At the southeastern slope of Mount of Olives is also where JESUS ascended to heaven:

Luke 24:50-51

King James Version

50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany

and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them,

he was parted from them,

and carried up into heaven.

Acts 1:6-9

King James Version

6 When they therefore were come together,

they asked of him, saying,

Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again

the kingdom to Israel?

7 And he said unto them,

It is not for you to know the times or the seasons,

which the Father hath put in his own power.

8 But ye shall receive power,

after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you:

and ye shall be witnesses unto me

both in Jerusalem,

and in all Judaea, and in Samaria,

and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 And when he had spoken these things,

while they beheld, he was taken up;

and a cloud received him out of their sight.

How JESUS was "taken up", is also how He will "come down".

Acts 1:10-12

King James Version

10 And while they looked stedfastly

toward heaven as he went up,

behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11 Which also said,

Ye men of Galilee,

why stand ye gazing up into heaven?

this same Jesus,

which is taken up from you into heaven,

shall so come in like manner

as ye have seen him go into heaven.

12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem

from the mount called Olivet,

which is from Jerusalem

a sabbath day's journey.

As SPIRIT and I finished writing this article, right this moment, I can't help but feeling this is the most important article in these chaotic, end times.

A waiting for the coming of JESUS.

As believers meet Him up in the clouds, for the Rapture.

After which, no one will want to have been left behind.

We created this 113th blog THREE days ago.

This is the 11th post.

A "culmination" of all the previous "tree" posts.

We shall stop at this one -- for now -- for this blog.

After all, all other 10 posts were meant to lead to this one.

We had no idea, until we reached here today.

That's how SPIRIT works with me.

A step at a time.

Satan did all he could to distract, and delay me from this task.

He did all he could to create chaos, and confusion.

Strangely, as I was writing this post, I felt "help".

The wifi responded better, than in all the week.

GOD's will be done.

This particular post was MEANT to be WRITTEN.

GOD is always "victor".

1 John 4:4

King James Version

4 Ye are of God, little children,

and have overcome them:

because greater is he that is in you,

than he that is in the world.

*Malchus:

"the personal servant or slave of the high priest Caiaphas

He is mentioned only by John. Peter cut off his right ear in the garden of Gethsemane (John 18:10). But our Lord cured it with a touch (Matthew 26:51; Mark 14:47; Luke 22:51). This was the last miracle of bodily cure wrought by our Lord. It is not mentioned by John."

FIG tree PROPHECIES

James 3:12

King James Version

12 Can the fig tree, my brethren,

bear olive berries?

either a vine, figs?

so can no fountain both yield

salt water and fresh.

From the previous post, we know how figs figured as food.

We also called tree "witness" in another post.

It's true, they may not be able to speak, but boy, the stuff they "hear".

Here's a lovely story of what one fig tree "heard".

The fig tree was witness to the power of JESUS.

Here's what the tree witnessed:

John 1:47-51

King James Version

47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him,

and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed,

in whom is no guile!

48 Nathanael saith unto him,

Whence knowest thou me?

Jesus answered and said unto him,

Before that Philip called thee,

when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.

49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him,

Rabbi, thou art the Son of God;

thou art the King of Israel.

50 Jesus answered and said unto him,

Because I said unto thee,

I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou?

thou shalt see greater things than these.

51 And he saith unto him,

Verily, verily, I say unto you,

Hereafter ye shall see heaven open,

and the angels of God ascending and descending

upon the Son of man.

Now, that's a precious prophecy, from the LORD JESUS.

Did He give us more, with fig trees around, or at least, about them?

Let's find out from Scripture.

Mark 13:28-33

King James Version

28 Now learn a parable of the fig tree;

When her branch is yet tender,

and putteth forth leaves,

ye know that summer is near:

29 So ye in like manner,

when ye shall see these things come to pass,

know that it is nigh, even at the doors.

30 Verily I say unto you,

that this generation shall not pass,

till all these things be done.

31 Heaven and earth shall pass away:

but my words shall not pass away.

32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man,

no, not the angels which are in heaven,

neither the Son, but the Father.

33 Take ye heed, watch and pray:

for ye know not when the time is.

I do love how SPIRIT leads me to the life that is GOD's WORD.

As is the life in these seemingly everyday trees:

Through Scripture, we learn about their symbolism.

How did fig trees figure in Bible prophecy?

What was their significance?

Jeremiah 24:1-2

King James Version

24 The Lord shewed me,

and, behold, two baskets of figs

were set before the temple of the Lord,

after that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon

had carried away captive Jeconiah

the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah,

and the princes of Judah,

with the carpenters and smiths, from Jerusalem,

and had brought them to Babylon.

2 One basket had very good figs,

even like the figs that are first ripe:

and the other basket had very naughty figs,

which could not be eaten, they were so bad.

Jeremiah 24:3

King James Version

3 Then said the Lord unto me,

What seest thou, Jeremiah

And I said, Figs;

the good figs, very good;

and the evil, very evil,

that cannot be eaten,

they are so evil.

Jeremiah 24:4-7

King James Version

4 Again the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

5 Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel;

Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge them

that are carried away captive of Judah,

whom I have sent out of this place

into the land of the Chaldeans for their good.

6 For I will set mine eyes upon them for good,

and I will bring them again to this land:

and I will build them, and not pull them down;

and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.

7 And I will give them an heart to know me,

that I am the Lord:

and they shall be my people,

and I will be their God:

for they shall return unto me

with their whole heart.

Jeremiah 24:8-10

King James Version

8 And as the evil figs, which cannot be eaten,

they are so evil;

surely thus saith the Lord,

So will I give Zedekiah the king of Judah,

and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem,

that remain in this land,

and them that dwell in the land of Egypt:

9 And I will deliver them to be removed

into all the kingdoms of the earth for their hurt,

to be a reproach and a proverb,

a taunt and a curse,

in all places whither I shall drive them.

10 And I will send the sword,

the famine, and the pestilence, among them,

 till they be consumed from off the land

that I gave unto them and to their fathers.

Habakkuk 3:17-19

King James Version

17 Although the fig tree shall not blossom,

neither shall fruit be in the vines;

the labour of the olive shall fail,

and the fields shall yield no meat;

the flock shall be cut off from the fold,

and there shall be no herd in the stalls:

18 Yet I will rejoice in the Lord,

I will joy in the God of my salvation.

19 The Lord God is my strength,

and he will make my feet like hinds' feet,

and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.

To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.

Revelation 6:12-17

King James Version

12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal,

and, lo, there was a great earthquake;

and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair,

and the moon became as blood;

13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth,

even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs,

when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

14 And the heaven departed

as a scroll when it is rolled together;

and every mountain and island

were moved out of their places.

15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men,

and the rich men, and the chief captains,

and the mighty men, and every bondman,

and every free man,

hid themselves in the dens

and in the rocks of the mountains;

16 And said to the mountains and rocks,

Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him

that sitteth on the throne,

and from the wrath of the Lamb:

17 For the great day of his wrath is come;

and who shall be able to stand?

And we all thought trees were just trees.

The SYCAMORE tree

Luke 19:1-2

King James Version

19 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.

2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus,

which was the chief among the publicans,

and he was rich.

It's worth noting here, the sycamore tree.

For it was my very first, Biblical TREE encounter in grade school.

Where the Catholic nuns told us of tiny man Zacchaeus.

And of how he scrambled up a sycamore tree, so he can see JESUS.

A funny, but heartening story, indeed.

One of my favorites, for sure.

Because it's so "human".

Here's the story of that encounter:

Luke 19:2-3

King James Version

2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus,

which was the chief among the publicans

and he was rich.

3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was;

and could not for the press,

because he was little of stature.

No one can beat this man's zeal.

Luke 19:4

King James Version

4 And he ran before,

and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him:

for he was to pass that way.

Of course, JESUS knew where Zaccheus was.

Luke 19:5-10

King James Version

5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up,

and saw him, and said unto him,

Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down;

for to day I must abide at thy house.

You can imagine the tiny, big-hearted man's delight.

Luke 19:6

King James Version

6 And he made haste, and came down,

and received him joyfully.

JESUS didn't care what others thought.

Luke 19:7

King James Version

7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying,

That he was gone to be guest with a man

that is a sinner.

Zacchaeus proudly "reports" to JESUS.

Luke 19:8

King James Version

8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord:

Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor;

and if I have taken any thing

from any man by false accusation,

I restore him fourfold.

Of course, JESUS knew, and was pleased.

Luke 19:9-10

King James Version

9 And Jesus said unto him,

This day is salvation come to this house,

forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

10 For the Son of man is come to seek

and to save that which was lost.

A sycamore tree.

Should a film be made, only ONE actor can play the part of Zacchaeus.

Roly-poly, funny man Danny DeVito is perfect for the role.

TREES of the BIBLE

Acts 4:20

King James Version

20 For we cannot but speak the things

which we have seen and heard.

I can't help but think, that trees are "witnesses".

What do they hear, when people take shelter under them?

What do they witness?

If they could speak, what would they say?

These strong, silent witnesses give much of themselves.

They provide shade.

They provide shelter.

They provide food.

Oh, the many marvelous uses of trees!

Which we all probably take for granted.

But no longer, for on this 113th blog, SPIRIT and I will honor them.

And we shall eavesdrop on what they have to say.

Just by them being where they are when Bible events happen.

How were they created?

Who created them?

Won't you want to know that, too?

We shall let SPIRIT guide us as we go along.

Let's see what Scripture has to say.

And let's all prepare to be astounded.

I feel like I'm going on a marvelous adventure!

A born again has to be childlike.

So JESUS can take root in us.

Pun always intended.

Matthew 18:3

King James Version

3 And said,

Verily I say unto you,

Except ye be converted,

and become as little children,

ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
